Tubes are in!!
Conor's tube surgery was scheduled for 7:45 Friday morning. We had to be at the hospital at 6:15. I was worried about Conor not having anything to eat or drink for 8 hours before the surgery, so I was very thankful that his appointment time was so early. Scott and I woke up at 5 and got ready. We left Conor asleep until we were ready to walk out the door. Our plan was to pick Conor up, still asleep, and drive him to the hospital. He woke up, but did a great job. He chit-chatted to us and himself the whole way there.
I LOVE Kosiar Children's Hospital. They are GREAT. This is the 4th time we've been to Kosair with Conor, and I have been impressed every time. This is what greeted us as we got off the elevator on the 8th floor, which is the surgical unit:

This sign, welcoming all the kiddos with surgery scheduled on Friday, totally made my day. Of course Scott brought his camera, so we stopped for a quick picture.
We got Conor signed in and back to his room right away. My little man is up to 27.9lbs and 32.5 inches already!! We got to meet the nurses and doctors who would be working with Conor for the procedure, and Daddy took Conor to the play room for a while to keep him occupied.
Around 7:30, Conor got a dose of loopy juice. I don't know what it was, but it worked. After about 5 minutes, Conor was on another planet. The idea was to make it easier for him to go to the OR with strangers, since Scott and I couldn't go with him. After his loopy juice kicked in, he thought everything was hilarious. And it was all in slow motion. What we really needed was a video camera to capture it, but we did get some good pictures. Here are just a few to capture the moment.

After about 15 minutes he started getting very sleepy, and it was time to go back to the OR. It was SO easy watching him go, since he was so calm and happy. I LOVE LOOPY JUICE!! I had pictured a scream fest, since Conor doesn't like to go to anyone he doesn't know, and even sometimes hesitates when going to someone he does! But this stuff was awesome.

The procedure was very fast. I think Conor was only gone for about 20 minutes. He came back awake and VERY thirsty. The doctor said Conor had another double ear infection, and there was lots of puss and drainage. I'm SO glad we got the tubes put in. This was ear infection number 7 since October, and I don't even know how many he has had since he was born.
Friday morning Conor was cranky and irritable, but it wasn't horrible. Once he got home and had some more juice and animal crackers, and a little bit of play time, he took a nice long nap. When he woke up, everything was pretty much back to normal!! He was talking, playing, and dancing all afternoon. And, he slept 12 hours on Friday night!!!
We had a GREAT weekend. Daddy got us some new bikes, and a seat and helmet for Conor. We went for a little bike ride, grilled out, played, and had a wonderful time. Conor is already starting to talk more. He learned how to say "uh oh" over the weekend, and now says it any time he falls over or drops something. I really don't think it is a coincidence. I think he can hear!!! I didn't think it was possible, but he is already more playful and more talkative than he was on Friday. I'm so very glad we did this for him.
Happy Monday!
